nextlearning’s work is rooted in five long-term commitments: participatory governance, learning innovation, regenerative development, economic reorientation and cultural change.
Today, these commitments are increasingly shaped by questions of societal resilience and security – extending far beyond defence and crisis response. They depend equally on the ability of institutions, communities and civic networks to anticipate disruption, sustain essential functions, adapt under pressure and recover together.
Therefore, our work focuses on the intersections where ecological, technological, and institutional change converge – and where societal resilience can be strengthened through trust, coordination, local knowledge and shared imagination.

Public systems under pressure
Public institutions face disruptions that differ in speed, visibility and effect.
Some arrive as acute crises. Others accumulate gradually. Their consequences are distributed unevenly across places, institutions and communities.
We examine how public and civic systems can recognise emerging vulnerabilities, sustain essential functions, adapt their practices and renew the relationships on which collective action depends.
Technology and collective intelligence
Artificial intelligence is changing how societies produce knowledge, interpret evidence, distribute responsibility and make decisions.
We investigate how machine systems, human judgement and institutional design can interact in ways that strengthen public agency.
Our work addresses data-informed decision environments, public-interest technology, institutional memory, collective intelligence and the governance of AI in public contexts.
Democracy and anticipatory governance
Democratic institutions must respond to immediate pressures while retaining the capacity to address long-term change.
We work on participatory governance, strategic foresight, public legitimacy and new forms of cooperation between institutions and society.
Our interest lies in how democratic systems can widen participation, work constructively with conflict and make decisions whose consequences extend beyond the present political cycle.
Regenerative economies and living value
Many socially and ecologically valuable contributions remain invisible within conventional systems of accounting, ownership and finance.
We explore how value can be recognised, governed, financed and sustained differently.
This includes commons-oriented approaches, cooperative models, stewardship structures and bio-economic logics that connect human activity with ecological regeneration.
Cities and living infrastructures
Cities make systemic change tangible.
Climate adaptation, housing, mobility, health, care, digitalisation and public space meet within the same institutional and physical environments.
We develop new forms of coordination, stewardship and decision-making around urban systems, especially where public tasks depend on the interaction of administrations, communities, technologies, data and living infrastructure.
Plural knowledge and the futures of being human
Many capabilities needed for viable futures already exist in place-based, life-serving and historically marginalised knowledge systems.
At the same time, increasing machine mediation and ecological constraint are changing how agency, meaning and human responsibility are understood.
We create spaces in which different ways of knowing can encounter one another and contribute to a richer account of possible futures.
